Roads to Resilience

Supporting Midlands farmers to build resilient, profitable and sustainable businesses

Roads to Resilience is a three-year programme helping Midlands farmers build more resilient, profitable and sustainable businesses. Forty-four farmers have been recruited as part of the project, representing a range of farm types, sizes and enterprises across the region.

The programme takes a whole-farm approach, helping participants understand their current business position, identify risks and opportunities, and plan for the future. Over the three years, farmers will work with experts from Andersons, the Allerton Project and Ricardo to baseline and future-proof their businesses, with support tailored to their individual circumstances.

Participants will receive fully funded one-to-one business and environmental advice, alongside tailored workshops, accredited training and peer networking. The programme is designed to support personal, environmental and economic resilience, reflecting the wide range of challenges facing farming businesses today.

Support will include practical guidance on areas such as business structure, future planning, capital investment, diversification, grants and schemes, soil health, regenerative farming, wildlife and habitats, carbon, biodiversity and wider land management opportunities.

Why this work matters

arming businesses are facing increasing pressure from changing markets, policy uncertainty, climate change, rising costs and the need to balance food production with environmental delivery. Roads to Resilience has been developed to provide practical, trusted and locally relevant support to help farmers respond to these challenges with confidence.

By combining business planning, environmental advice and peer learning, the programme aims to help farmers make informed decisions that support both business performance and environmental outcomes.
